Tony Bridge
Tony Bridge is a digital artist, photo educator, writer and one of New Zealand's leading landscape photographers. He is a graduate of Canterbury University, New Zealand, and a fellow of the New Zealand photographic Society He has variously been a teacher, E-learning researcher, and curriculum developer for the New Zealand government and the private education sector, software tester and Kodak Professional Mentor. He divides his time between work for exhibition, commissions and workshops in New Zealand, South Africa and the North American continent.
Tony's work draws heavily upon his Maori and European heritage and his ongoing studies into a broad range of spiritual and mystical traditions. He also draws heavily upon a degree in foreign languages and literature.
It seems to me, he writes, that the digital process is limited only by our imagination, our knowledge of self, and our willingness to give it free rein. For me, capture is only the beginning. It is in postproduction that I can truly recognise my vision and a form which others can share. PhotoSuite in general, and Genuine Fractals and PhotoTools in particular, enable me to add layers of meaning and subtlety that I could once only dream about. Tools like this enable me to make the crossing from the documentary tradition of photography to the expressive potential of mark-making with a camera and computer. In doing so, I am able to make work that lives in a space between photography and painting.
